“I've been working with a number of other stores since I started, and it felt like the right time to branch out on my own," Kirkwood told Vogue UK. "This is definitely an extremely ideal location, we were extremely lucky that this spot became available," he said. It seems that the designer and his team have had their eye on it for a while. A series of artists, friends of Kirkwood, did the interior design. “We also brought in a number of people to help us with the interior, like artist Richard Woods for the flooring, and a friend of mine who is an architect to help us realise the shop.”
According to Kirkwood, the shop will be a great opportunity to test live feedback from clients and get ideas for future collections. He won't be stopping in London. Kirkwood is assessing a series of spaces in New York – the aim is to open a boutique there at the start of 2012 – and is also looking into partnerships for retail outlets in Dubai and Hong Kong.
